Reclaim Your Phone: How to Disable Annoying AI Features on Your Devices

Tired of artificial intelligence hijacking your smartphone experience? Whether it’s intrusive AI Overviews cluttering Google searches, unsolicited Siri suggestions on your iPhone, or unwanted AI briefings on your Samsung Galaxy, you can regain control. For Google searches, while AI Overviews can’t be permanently disabled, appending ‘-AI’ to your search query can sometimes bypass them, or you can switch to the ‘Web’ filter for a traditional link-based experience. DuckDuckGo offers a dedicated ‘No-AI’ search engine for a completely AI-free browsing session. On iPhones, you can disable Siri suggestions that appear before you start typing, as well as AI summaries for notifications and messages within compatible iOS versions. Samsung Galaxy users can disable ‘Now brief’ on the lock screen and choose local data processing for many AI features, although some core AI functions remain active. Google Pixel phones offer granular control over features like Magic Cue and Proactive Assistance, allowing you to disable suggestions, and Circle to Search can be turned off to prevent accidental activation. Even Google’s Gemini assistant can be managed by disabling ‘Hey Google’ activation or switching back to Google Assistant. While a universal AI off-switch doesn’t exist, systematically disabling these intrusive features across your devices can significantly restore a more personalized and less AI-dominated mobile experience.
