Macklemore Defends ‘Free Palestine’ Stance Amid Backlash and Tour Launch

Macklemore has defiantly doubled down on his pro-Palestinian activism, launching his ‘Free Palestine Tour’ in Dublin weeks after his controversial remarks led to his removal from Ed Sheeran’s tour lineup. Addressing the crowd, Macklemore declared, “I am proud to stand here on stage in solidarity with the Palestinian people. We will continue to fight for collective liberation until our last breath.” He directly referenced the fallout from his earlier “Free Palestine” statement, noting, “Six weeks ago, two words is all that it took… Somehow those words have become more controversial than the suffering that made them necessary.” While his outspoken stance garnered praise from some as “stunning and brave,” others online accused the rapper of being “out of touch” and “performative,” suggesting he focus on domestic issues like homelessness in Los Angeles rather than political speeches. The controversy ignited after Macklemore was dropped from Sheeran’s U.S. tour, a decision Sheeran stated was made by concert promoters and venues, not himself, though Sheeran expressed being “appalled” by the Israel-Palestine conflict. Macklemore, however, claimed that Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots and Gillette Stadium, had influenced other stadium owners to oppose his performances. The ‘Free Palestine Tour’ is set to continue in Paris and London, with future U.S. dates to be announced.
