Ukraine’s official air-raid alert app was reportedly hacked on Sunday, broadcasting alarming false warnings of a “radiation hazard” and a “chemical attack alert” across Kyiv, urging residents to stay indoors. The emergency alerts, which also falsely claimed a nuclear alert and mentioned Russia’s hypersonic Oreshnik missile and street fighting, were amplified by loudspeakers. Ukraine’s Air Force confirmed the app had been subjected to “enemy influence” but stressed there was no actual radiation threat, attributing the incident to a cyberattack and advising citizens to remain calm and follow official updates. Ukraine’s Center for Strategic Communications pointed the finger at Russia for the disruption, though no group has claimed responsibility. Coincidentally, Russia’s Emergencies Ministry also reported its own mobile application was hit by a “massive cyberattack” that allowed attackers to disseminate false information to the public.
