Streamer Hasan Piker Labels Bin Laden a ‘Spoiled Brat’ and 9/11 ‘Blowback’ in Axios Interview

Internet streamer Hasan Piker ignited controversy during an interview with Axios by characterizing Osama bin Laden as a “spoiled brat” for his motivations behind the 9/11 attacks, which Piker described as “blowback” stemming from decades of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. Piker elaborated on bin Laden’s stated reasons for targeting the U.S., including American support for Israel, oil policies, and military bases in the region, noting the historical paradox of bin Laden once being a U.S. ally during the Soviet-Afghan War. Despite condemning the 9/11 attacks as a “horrifying tragedy” and explicitly stating he does not morally accept the actions, Piker maintained that “blowback is not a justification, blowback is just what it is,” implying that U.S. actions created the conditions for such retaliation. He further suggested that a less interventionist U.S. foreign policy could prevent the rise of figures like bin Laden and reduce global danger. This interview also saw Piker draw parallels between the U.S. and al-Qaeda in terms of causing global terror, adding to the widespread backlash he has faced for his remarks.
