Soldiers Halt Horrific Roadside Attack After SUV Crash

Two heroic soldiers from Joint Base Lewis-McChord intervened on a Washington state freeway Monday morning, tackling and disarming a woman who allegedly stabbed a 9-year-old girl and threatened another after her SUV careened into a semi-truck and rolled over. The chaotic scene unfolded on southbound Interstate 5 near DuPont, where witnesses described seeing the woman driving erratically before the violent crash. Following the rollover, the 35-year-old suspect allegedly produced a knife and began threatening two young girls, resulting in the 9-year-old sustaining multiple broken bones and a stab wound. The swift actions of the passing soldiers, who witnessed the unfolding horror, prevented further tragedy as they subdued the woman and secured the weapon before authorities arrived. The 15-year-old girl escaped serious injury, and the semi-truck driver was unharmed. The woman was taken for evaluation and is under investigation for DUI, vehicular assault, and first-degree assault, with potential charges including two counts of assault and reckless endangerment. The bravery of these service members, who chose to stop and help rather than drive by, has been widely praised by bystanders who assisted in restraining the woman until law enforcement took custody.
