Seattle Mariners Tap 36-Year-Old Jason Kanzler, Ex-Cubs Exec, to Reignite Post-Regression Firepower

In a bold move to shake off a disappointing 76-86 season following their 2025 ALCS appearance, the Seattle Mariners have officially appointed 36-year-old Jason Kanzler as their new manager, marking a significant shift in leadership. Kanzler, who most recently served as the Chicago Cubs’ director of player development for the past three seasons, brings a fresh perspective and a reputation for challenging players to improve, a key trait sought by Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto. Kanzler’s coaching journey includes impactful stints as a major league coach and assistant hitting coach for the Houston Astros from 2022 to 2023, where he was part of their World Series-winning team in 2022, and prior experience within the Astros’ farm system. Before his coaching career, Kanzler played as an outfielder in the Minnesota Twins organization from 2013 to 2015. Now, tasked with unlocking the immense talent within the Mariners roster, Kanzler and his coaching staff are aiming to restore the team to its former championship contention.
