Repeat Offender with Extensive Criminal History Accused of Shooting National Guard Member in D.C.

Jerrell Jackson, 41, a man with a documented history of at least 13 prior criminal cases and arrests in Washington D.C. since 2004, including convictions for assaulting police officers and illegally carrying a firearm, has been identified by the U.S. Marshals Service as the suspect in the shooting of a National Guard member who was attempting to break up a street fight. The incident, which occurred Sunday night, saw the National Guard member shot in the leg while intervening in a dispute outside a local business; Jackson was subsequently shot by other Guard members and taken to the hospital. This arrest highlights ongoing concerns about violent crime in the city, even as federal and local agencies, including the National Guard, operate under the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force, which has reported significant success in reducing crime rates and making arrests.
