Honduran National Accused of Hammer Attack on ICE Officers During New Jersey Traffic Stop

During a targeted ICE operation in Gibbsboro, New Jersey, a traffic stop escalated violently when Reinieri De Jesus Licona Amador, 27, a Honduran national allegedly present unlawfully in the U.S., is accused of climbing onto his truck and repeatedly swinging a hammer at Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. Prosecutors detailed that after officers initiated the stop based on a license plate check revealing Licona Amador’s lack of lawful status, he refused commands to stop moving, reached for a hammer, and resisted attempts to restrain him. Ignoring repeated orders, Licona Amador allegedly scaled the passenger-side door of his truck and brandished the hammer, swinging it at the federal officers. The encounter concluded with officers deploying pepper spray and subduing Licona Amador, who now faces charges of assaulting federal officers with a deadly weapon, carrying a potential penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
