A harrowing ordeal unfolded in Northern California’s Shasta Trinity National Forest when a father-son duo, identified as Joseph Charles Henrichsen, 49, and his son Phoenix Henrichsen, allegedly kidnapped two U.S. Forest Service workers, zip-tying them and holding them hostage for hours inside a trailer near Gumboot Lake. The FBI was called to the scene and deployed a hostage negotiator from Quantico to coordinate with local authorities, who engaged in lengthy negotiations that ultimately led to the safe release of both federal employees in the early hours of Friday morning. The alleged kidnappers surrendered to the FBI shortly after the hostages were freed. While the motive behind the kidnapping and the reason for demanding to speak with the FBI remain unknown, U.S. Attorney Eric Grant announced that both men will be charged by criminal complaint with kidnapping a federal employee.
