Adam Fetcher, a former deputy press secretary for the Obama administration and ex-communications officer for the City of Minneapolis, was fired last week after allegedly stealing cash and credit cards from his coworkers to purchase kratom, an herbal supplement used to treat opioid withdrawal symptoms. Fetcher, who earned $186,000 annually, had reportedly returned from a work-approved rehabilitation program before the alleged thefts occurred between mid-May and June. Surveillance footage captured Fetcher at a Minneapolis smoke shop making a $481 purchase with a stolen credit card, which employees later helped authorities identify him from, even taking pictures and noting his license plate number. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office is now reviewing the case, while city officials assured staff that there is no ongoing risk of theft, despite the serious nature of the allegations against Fetcher, who previously held senior communications roles for Patagonia, Rivian, and Lyft.
