Just days after the one-year anniversary of his assassination, a newly unveiled statue of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Turning Point USA’s Phoenix headquarters was vandalized with bright red paint. The eight-foot statue’s face and neck were smeared, and a crude frowning face was drawn on its chest. Crucially, a sign at the statue’s base, which proclaimed “Jesus defeated death so you can live” and featured Kirk’s image, was also targeted. The word “Jesus” and a cross symbol were crossed out, with “Satan” apparently scrawled across the display. Erika Kirk, widow of Charlie Kirk and current CEO of Turning Point USA, vowed defiance, stating her husband’s legacy would not be erased and that they would rebuild, quoting him as saying they should “build two statues for every statue that they tear down.” She asserted that the bullet that killed her husband amplified his voice and predicted the spray paint would further spread his legacy, promising to restore the statue and the damaged sign. Phoenix police confirmed the incident is under investigation, with no arrests or suspect descriptions announced. Turning Point USA COO Tyler Bowyer condemned the act as perpetrated by “radical criminals” and “violent thugs,” emphasizing that “hate cannot win” and urging conservative supporters to vote. The organization plans to restore the memorial and work with law enforcement to identify those responsible, calling the vandalism “diabolical” and quoting scripture about the world hating believers first. The statue, depicting Kirk in his signature “Freedom” T-shirt and cross necklace, was commissioned from artist Quintin McCann and was expected to be moved indoors for security. Conservative figures widely condemned the attack, with Representative Abe Hamadeh calling it “abhorrent” and Representative Andy Biggs labeling it “absolute evil.” The vandalism occurred as legal proceedings continue against Tyler Robinson, who has pleaded not guilty to charges in Kirk’s death, with prosecutors seeking the death penalty.
