Terror Strikes Jordanian Church: 7 Killed in Funeral Attack

Seven people were brutally killed and 34 injured during a funeral service at a Greek Orthodox church in Karak, Jordan, in what King Abdullah II has unequivocally condemned as a “terrorist attack.” The violence erupted as multiple gunmen opened fire, with initial reports from Jordanian state television depicting at least three assailants armed with pistols and a semi-automatic rifle. The assailants reportedly approached the church, fired shots, and then fled towards the building. King Abdullah II vowed “the harshest retaliation” against the perpetrators, emphasizing national unity and declaring, “All Jordanians, from north to south, are partners in land and fate, and nothing stands between them.” Investigations are reportedly underway at full speed, though the government statement referred to “unknown assailants.” This horrific incident follows a similar deadly attack in Karak in 2016, where gunmen ambushed police and killed 10 people, including officers, before being killed themselves after a standoff.
