The infant, born four months early and weighing just over a pound, had overcome significant medical challenges and was mere days away from being discharged home when the alleged abuse occurred on April 2. The child’s mother discovered the horrifying injuries, including a blue and black tongue and new bruises, upon visiting her daughter. Ansley reportedly attempted to intercept the mother, claiming the baby had slept through the night, but medical records and witness accounts suggest the nurse was flustered, frustrated, and possibly overwhelmed that night, making an unusually high number of entries into the infant’s room. Despite a defense attorney’s claims of Ansley’s cooperative nature and extensive experience, the gravity of the alleged injuries has led to the nurse’s termination and ongoing legal proceedings, though the child is now recovering at home.
