28-Year Global Trek Concludes: Adventurer Swims English Channel to Return Home

After an astonishing 28-year odyssey spanning four continents and over 30,000 miles, British adventurer Karl Bushby has finally set foot back on UK soil, culminating his monumental walk around the world with a swim across the English Channel. Bushby, who began his epic journey in Chile in 1998 with a dream inspired by a birthday card, faced numerous challenges including visa denials, geopolitical hurdles, the global pandemic, and personal detours, yet persevered with the unwavering support of strangers he met along the way. His remarkable expedition saw him traverse South America, cross the Bering Strait into Russia, journey through Asia, and navigate Europe, all while waiting for the opportune moment to complete his final leg. Now, with approximately 240 miles remaining to reach his mother’s home in Hull, the 50-year-old ex-paratrooper is savoring the taste of home, celebrating with a traditional British fish and chips, and reflecting on the incredible resilience of the human spirit and the kindness of people across the globe.
