A promising young life was cut tragically short when 23-year-old Airman 1st Class Cedric Eneluna, a member of the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron’s Pavements and Equipment Flight at Vandenberg Space Force Base, died Thursday in a devastating heavy equipment accident. Eneluna, who joined the military in March 2024 and arrived at Vandenberg in August for his first duty assignment, was operating heavy machinery when the equipment rolled down an embankment, according to base officials. The Pavements and Equipment Flight, known as the “Dirt Boyz,” is crucial for maintaining the base’s infrastructure, including roads and airfields essential for supporting critical Space Force launch and test operations. While no other personnel were injured, the loss of Eneluna, described by his commanders as an exemplary Airman with a positive attitude, tireless work ethic, and unwavering commitment, has sent profound sadness throughout the Vandenberg family. The Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Office is investigating the official cause of death, and a Safety Investigation Board review is underway.
