Uber Driver Removed After Passenger Reports Disturbing Late-Night Ride Incident

A young woman has issued a warning to fellow rideshare passengers after a deeply unsettling experience where her Uber driver allegedly canceled her trip mid-ride while she was still in the vehicle, prompting Uber to remove the driver from its platform. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. when Elyse Madrid, 22, and a friend hailed an Uber to go to a karaoke bar. Madrid became suspicious when she noticed the car was not heading in the correct direction and grew alarmed when she saw the driver cancel the trip on the app while they were still inside. Confronted, the driver offered conflicting explanations, blaming phone issues and then claiming his sister had canceled the ride. Madrid insisted he pull over, and they exited the car on Randolph Street near the Kennedy Expressway, after which the driver reportedly sped off erratically. This harrowing experience is particularly distressing for Madrid, who had previously been a victim of assault in a taxi. Experts advise passengers to speak up immediately if they notice anything unusual, to stay calm if a trip is canceled mid-ride, clearly state their desired drop-off location, and to call 911 if they feel threatened, while also recommending sharing live locations with trusted contacts and verifying driver and vehicle details before starting a trip. This incident follows a similar report from last month where another woman experienced a concerning detour with her Uber driver.
