Williams recounted how he spotted the child losing his footing in ankle-deep water and immediately radioed for assistance before discarding his gear and rushing to the scene. Despite putting on his fins and grabbing his buoy, the turbulent ocean conditions made it impossible to initially secure the boy. After being battered by waves, the child became limp, presenting a significant challenge as Williams struggled to pull him to shore. It was only with the crucial assistance of fellow lifeguard Aaron Bohnen, and despite bystanders attempting to help, that Williams was able to bring the unconscious child back to safety. The father of the rescued boy, Sumit Rai, expressed profound gratitude, emphasizing the immense difficulty of fighting the powerful waves while carrying the limp 100-pound child, and acknowledging that Williams’ unwavering effort prevented a tragic outcome.
