Friesenhahn, who was expected to testify next week in a Bexar County courtroom, was shot multiple times on May 4, 2025, while working as a security guard at El Patio Sports Bar in San Antonio. He had reportedly attempted to prevent Ortega, a Honduran national, from entering the venue with a concealed weapon. The incident left Friesenhahn paralyzed, unable to speak, and requiring full-time medical care. The family has expressed outrage over Ortega’s alleged illegal immigration status and extensive prior criminal record in Texas, including multiple arrests for driving while intoxicated and failing to appear in court, questioning why he was not deported despite active warrants. His brother-in-law, Emmanuel Martinez, stated that the District Attorney’s office should have complied with removal orders after his last court appearance in March 2025, prior to the shooting. Friesenhahn’s sister, Becky Borjon, emphasized the lifelong struggle ahead for her brother, stating he will never walk, marry, or raise a family due to his injuries, and expressed frustration that the system allowed Ortega to remain free despite his repeated offenses and missed court dates. The Bexar County District Attorney’s Office declined to comment on the case status.
