In a chilling account, Maryland parents Oscar Pineda and Katerin Monzon-Alvarado, both 21, now face severe child abuse and assault charges after their 2-month-old daughter, Aida Mikea Monzon Alvarado, died from horrific head and brain trauma, including multiple skull fractures. The infant was rushed to Harbor Hospital with suspicious bruising around her eyes and jaw, later revealing the extent of her injuries. The father, Pineda, allegedly told police that ‘Satan slamming a door on the child’ was responsible for the fatal trauma, while the mother, Monzon-Alvarado, suggested a fall from a bed caused by their 2-year-old son jumping. Prosecutors, however, argued that the severity of the injuries was inconsistent with a simple fall, pointing to evidence of frontal lobe hemorrhaging and a subdural hemorrhage. Both parents admitted to noticing bruises and the baby vomiting days before she became unresponsive and was taken to the hospital, yet they delayed seeking medical attention. The Guatemalan nationals are being held without bail, and additional homicide charges may be filed pending the autopsy results.
