Tense bodycam footage released by the Newport Police Department reveals the harrowing moments of a shootout that erupted in a wealthy seaside resort town when officers responded to a stolen sailboat report. The incident, which occurred on August 26th, saw officers arrive at Newport Harbor to find a suspect who immediately opened fire, forcing police to return shots. During the exchange, an officer was heard on his own bodycam repeatedly stating he had been shot in the leg. The suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Brendan Norris, was killed at the scene and the stolen vessel was identified as the ‘Pathfinder,’ previously reported stolen from Liberty Harbor Marina in Jersey City, New Jersey, marking a dramatic cross-state crime spree that ended in a violent confrontation.
