Ex-FBI Officials Arrested for Allegedly Lying to Congress About Hunter Biden Laptop Probe

Two former FBI officials, Nikki Cole Floris and Bradley Benavides, have been arrested and charged with lying to Congress regarding their involvement in investigations into Hunter Biden, specifically concerning matters related to his laptop. The Department of Justice announced the charges, stating that both individuals allegedly provided false testimony to congressional committees in 2023. Evidence reportedly contradicts Benavides’ claim that he first learned of the laptop story from Wikipedia, with the DOJ possessing information indicating he discussed it internally within the FBI. Similarly, the department alleges that Floris falsely denied discussing Hunter Biden with members of the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force, despite evidence to the contrary. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro emphasized the gravity of senior FBI agents lying to Congress, stating, “When senior officials entrusted with safeguarding our nation’s security choose deception over duty, they undermine the very institutions they swore to uphold.” Floris’s attorneys have vehemently denied the accusations, calling the charges false and politically motivated, timed strategically on the eve of an election. FBI Director Kash Patel noted the involvement of the now-dissolved Foreign Influence Task Force, adding that one of the individuals is privately on record claiming to have been “running a shadow government” during the 2020 election, reinforcing the DOJ’s commitment to combating alleged weaponization within the bureau.
