Newly released NYPD body camera footage reveals a harrowing four-minute standoff outside One Times Square where officers desperately pleaded with Pamela Cisneros, 49, to drop two knives and “just breathe” moments before she was fatally shot. The footage shows officers attempting to de-escalate the situation after Cisneros allegedly stabbed two people, including Bank of America executive Erin Piacenti, 32, who had recently returned from maternity leave and was killed in the attack. Cisneros repeatedly refused commands, expressing despair by stating she was “tired of this world” and that officers would have to kill her, even threatening to harm them. Despite officers’ efforts to build rapport and assure her of help, the situation escalated when Cisneros advanced towards them with the knives. Tasers were deployed unsuccessfully, leading officers to open fire when she continued to advance, resulting in her death. The attacks, described as random and unprovoked, began with a seriously injured 68-year-old man before Piacenti was fatally stabbed. Cisneros had prior documented mental health encounters but no arrest record, and the incident was not believed to be terrorism-related.
