Salinas, a caregiver for his brother, described how he drew his concealed pistol and engaged the gunman, Chad Williams, after witnessing the unfolding tragedy. “He did not like it when bullets started firing both ways,” Salinas stated, emphasizing that his swift response, alongside an off-duty state trooper, prevented further casualties. The motive behind Williams’ attack, which claimed three lives and injured seven others before he took his own life, remains under investigation. Salinas, who was not afraid during the confrontation, felt a duty to act, stating, “There’s a task that needs to be done, and we’re the ones who need to do it.” His actions, along with the trooper’s, are being lauded as heroic, diverting the shooter and saving numerous lives in what authorities are calling a chaotic and fast-moving attack.
