An illegal immigrant rideshare driver, Abdoulaye Dia, who is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage female passenger in Maryland, has a prior arrest for sex abuse in New York City, federal authorities revealed. Dia, a citizen of Guinea who entered the U.S. illegally in December 2023 and was released by the Biden administration, faces charges in Maryland including first-degree rape, kidnapping, second-degree assault, and third-degree sex offense following an alleged assault on an underage teen in a Silver Spring parking lot. Investigators identified Dia through rideshare app data, leading to his arrest. Notably, Dia was previously arrested on June 10 in New York City for charges including sexual abuse by forcible compulsion, forcible touching, injuring a child under 17, and sexual abuse without consent. Empower, the rideshare company, stated that Dia’s background check conducted on July 16, 2026, did not reveal any incidents and that they are cooperating fully with law enforcement.
