Tragedy Strikes Luxury Hotel: Two Die in Suspected Pool Electrocution, Two Injured in Rescue Attempt

A devastating incident unfolded at the Conrad Bengaluru hotel when two foreign nationals, identified as German Lufthansa crew member Alexander Maximilian Theiss, 57, and Slovak national and IBM project manager Juraj Horvat, 45, perished in a suspected electrocution at the hotel’s swimming pool on Friday evening. The tragedy turned even more dire as two others, American guest Mathew Desantis, 41, and pool attendant Rahul Tiwari, 28, were injured while attempting to rescue the victims. While preliminary investigations point towards an electrical leak, possibly from the underwater lighting system, police are awaiting comprehensive technical and medical reports to confirm the exact cause. Theiss was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, and Horvat succumbed after resuscitation efforts failed. Desantis and Tiwari, though injured, are reported to be in stable condition, with Tiwari undergoing checks for potential fractures. Theiss’s wife has filed a police complaint, alleging the men were shocked while trying to exit the pool. The hotel expressed deep sadness and is cooperating with authorities, stating the cause remains unconfirmed, even as its website listed the pool as closed for maintenance for the following month, a closure whose relation to the incident is yet to be established.
