Alexander Brothers Used Luxury to Lure, Silence Victims, Lawyer Claims

The Alexander brothers leveraged their opulent lifestyle—complete with private jets, superyachts, and connections to the elite—to ensnare women and foster an environment of fear that silenced their victims, according to Michael J. Willemin, an attorney representing three women pursuing civil claims against the convicted sex traffickers. Willemin stated that the brothers’ wealth and social standing created an “aura” that made victims reluctant to come forward, fearing retaliation such as social exclusion, surveillance, or even violence, a fear exacerbated by the brothers’ ability to “use wealth and power to help secure silence.” This tactic, combined with the alleged use of drugs and alcohol to impair victims’ memories, allowed the brothers to execute a “consistent playbook to lure, isolate and rape their victims” over more than a decade, a scheme that prosecutors detailed involved identifying women through social media and dating apps before offering luxurious experiences, only to drug and assault them. While the brothers have been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for their sex-trafficking scheme, Willemin emphasized that their criminal convictions bolster the allegations in the ongoing civil cases, which are now poised to move forward, particularly with a key hearing scheduled before the New York Court of Appeals that could impact numerous civil claims.
