New York City experienced significant disruption this week as radical groups engaged in acts of protest and vandalism. On Wednesday, anti-ICE activists blocked access to the Brooklyn Bridge, causing extensive traffic gridlock and stranding commuters. Demonstrators chanted slogans against law enforcement and ICE, linking them to the KKK and demanding the release of an individual arrested in a recent ICE encounter that led to a shooting. Fourteen arrests were made by the NYPD following the hour-long disruption. Concurrently, the hallowed grounds of the 9/11 Memorial were defaced when Johnathan Tijerina was arrested for allegedly spray-painting a message, “just stop killing kids,” across the engraved names of victims. His organization, “Just Stop Killing Kids,” claimed the act was a demand for gun control measures, including universal background checks and a national gun registry, directed at political figures. While the 9/11 Memorial & Museum confirmed the affected area was swiftly restored by security and law enforcement, city leaders have remained notably silent on both incidents.
