Reeve vehemently dismissed the notion that transgender women pose a threat in locker rooms, stating, “It is not the case that we have ‘biological men’ in girls’ locker rooms. The way it’s being phrased, the innuendo there that transgender women are predators of some kind in the locker room. There’s a lot of narrative that is problematic that we need to address.” Her comments come as a rally, dubbed ‘Sophie Night’ in support of Fever star Sophie Cunningham’s stance on excluding transgender women from female sports, was scheduled outside the venue. Reeve, while acknowledging the right to peaceful assembly, emphasized that the transgender participation narrative is often exaggerated as the primary issue facing women’s sports, suggesting that disparities in facilities, uniforms, and institutional investment are more significant concerns. She advocated for inclusive solutions, stating, “Every kid has the right to access,” while conceding that complexities arise at post-puberty and elite levels, where common ground must be found to ensure inclusivity rather than outright exclusion, noting, “The answer isn’t no.” Reeve also revealed she had encouraged WNBA leadership years ago to proactively establish clear policies on the matter, aiming to be leaders rather than reactive in addressing such issues, and expressed hope that increased education would clarify that transgender athletes are not the core problem and that exclusion is never the answer, asserting, “trans lives matter.”
