Donald Steven Lang, 62, a dual U.S. and Canadian citizen, has been arrested in Canada at the request of the FBI, ending a months-long international search for the globe-trotting sailor accused of exploiting a minor aboard his 55-foot sailboat, ‘Ishi.’ Indicted in Hawaii on one count of sexual exploitation of children for alleged offenses between September and December 2024, Lang was also facing separate charges in Idaho for lewd conduct and sexual battery of a minor stemming from allegations between 2003 and 2007. The FBI had warned that Lang, known for sailing worldwide and frequently harboring in Hawaii, could have been heading towards the Pacific, with potential destinations including Fiji, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, or Indonesia, and had ties in various U.S. states and international locations. The Department of Justice emphasized that protecting children from sexual predators is a top priority, and Lang’s apprehension was a result of close cooperation between the FBI and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, with federal prosecutors seeking forfeiture of his vessel and electronic devices upon conviction, where he faces a potential sentence of 15 to 30 years in prison.
