Top Intel Dem Faces Ex-Trump Advisor in Virginia Senate Race Shakeup

The race for Virginia’s Senate seat is now fully formed, pitting incumbent Democrat Mark Warner, a powerful member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, against Republican nominee Bert Mizusawa, a former Major General and ex-Trump foreign policy advisor. This contest marks a significant challenge for Republicans in a state that hasn’t sent a GOP senator to Washington in over two decades, and it’s a race not currently on the national Republican radar for potential flips. Mizusawa, who has previously launched unsuccessful bids and served on Trump’s transition team and in the CIA, will also contend with independent candidate Mark Moran, a former reality TV contestant and investment banker who gained notoriety for betting on his own campaign. All three contenders are newcomers to elected office, bringing backgrounds in government, military service, or intelligence.
