A 17-year-old North Carolina girl, Sarah L. Santiago, has been indicted on three murder counts and one conspiracy charge for allegedly aiding and abetting the deadly May 18th mosque shooting in San Diego, despite being across the country during the attack. Prosecutors claim Santiago recorded and helped distribute the attackers’ livestream and published their manifesto, actions that could lead to her facing adult charges in North Carolina. The two gunmen, Caleb Vazquez and Cain Clark, stormed the Islamic Center of San Diego intending mass murder, killing three men who confronted them before taking their own lives. Authorities revealed the mosque attack was part of a larger plot that also targeted a local Jewish temple and a predominantly African-American high school. Santiago is also accused of purchasing a white-supremacist symbol patch for one of the attackers. The FBI highlighted that Santiago had multiple opportunities to alert law enforcement and that her failure to do so carries significant consequences, emphasizing that North Carolina law allows 17-year-olds to be tried as adults for such severe offenses.
