SNL Writer’s Sister Case Escalates: Homicide Detectives Search Joshua Tree Months After Family’s Murder Claim

Months after the family of “Saturday Night Live” writer Jimmy Fowlie claimed his sister, Christina Lynn Downer, was dead, Los Angeles police homicide detectives have launched a search in the Joshua Tree area for evidence related to her disappearance. Downer, 38, vanished from Koreatown in late November 2025, with her family later announcing that the LAPD had informed them of her death and that the case had transitioned to a homicide investigation. However, the LAPD publicly disputed this, stating Downer had not been located and the case remained a missing person investigation, though acknowledging suspicious circumstances. Fowlie had also raised concerns that Downer’s cellphone and social media were used to create a false narrative of her voluntarily disappearing. Detectives from the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division began their search in Joshua Tree on Friday, but authorities have not disclosed the specific evidence they are seeking, whether human remains, a suspect, or other clues, nor what led them to the remote location or if the case’s official classification has changed.
