Medevac Helicopter Crashes Off Catalina Island: One Missing, Four Hospitalized

A medevac helicopter plunged into the ocean off the coast of Catalina Island Wednesday night, sparking an urgent search and rescue operation that has so far accounted for four of the five individuals on board, who were subsequently transported to local hospitals. The Los Angeles County Fire Department received the distress call shortly before 8 p.m., immediately dispatching helicopters and divers to the scene, with the U.S. Coast Guard also responding to the unfolding emergency. Officials confirmed that at least one person remains unaccounted for amidst the ongoing efforts to locate them, while two passengers were taken to hospitals in stable condition and the other two in unknown condition. The helicopter, identified as belonging to Reach Air Medical Services, had reportedly arrived on Catalina Island earlier in the evening, with its flight plan after takeoff remaining unclear as rescue teams continue their critical work.
