A decorated Marine veteran, working as a security guard at a Citibank campus in Florida, is being hailed a hero after he fatally shot an active shooter who drove onto the property with the intent to kill. The gunman, identified as 35-year-old Jacob Pearson, was reportedly enraged over a $2,500 delinquent credit card bill and had made violent threats before driving from Orlando to the Citibank Center in Brandon. Despite proactive safety measures initiated by Citibank’s head of security, Pearson crashed through a gate and immediately shot and killed a female employee, LeAnne Selmon, before his rifle malfunctioned. He then retrieved a handgun from his car and executed Selmon as she tried to crawl away. Pearson proceeded into a cafeteria, seeking more victims, but was confronted by security officer John Fraley. Fraley, a Marine veteran with firearms training, took a tactical position and engaged Pearson, striking him multiple times and ending his deadly rampage before it could escalate further. Sheriff Chad Chronister praised Fraley’s bravery, stating that he risked his own life to protect others and that his decisive action prevented further tragedy.
