Heroic Dad Drowns Trying to Save Tangled Seagull

A father’s act of compassion turned tragic when Stone Romberg, a 31-year-old father of two from the Atlanta area, drowned in the Florida Panhandle after attempting to free a seagull entangled in his fishing line. Romberg swam out to the struggling bird, but in the process, the hook and the bird became snagged on his hand. As he tried to swim back to shore, a powerful ocean current swept him further out to sea, leading to his untimely death. His family described him as having a ‘kind heart, hard work, and willingness to always lend a hand,’ a sentiment echoed by those who knew him, including guests and owners at the condominium complex where he managed chair services. A GoFundMe established for his wife and two young daughters has raised significant funds, testament to the impact he had on those around him.
