Heartbreaking Father’s Plea for Visit Uncovered Weeks Before NYT Executive Son’s Alleged In-Law Ambush Murder

A poignant Facebook message from a father expressing a simple hope for his son to visit home has surfaced, just weeks before prosecutors allege the son, New York Times executive Jonathan McKinsey, was the victim of a brutal, planned ambush by his own 77-year-old in-laws. The message, posted by William Finney II on September 7th, read, “Jon, hope everything is going well. Hope you can visit us when you have some free time. Mom and Dad love you so much and miss you. Hope everything goes well with you and Candice and the kids.” Less than three weeks later, McKinsey, 40, was found fatally shot in a Dublin, California park, with prosecutors now charging his in-laws, Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, with murder, alleging they “lay in wait” to intentionally kill him. The chilling accusations paint a picture of a calculated attack in a public parking lot, with witnesses reportedly identifying the elderly couple as the shooters, and surveillance video allegedly capturing them firing “in concert” on McKinsey, all amidst a bitter divorce, custody battle, and competing domestic violence allegations between McKinsey and his estranged wife, Candice Jang, who is the daughter of the accused killers. McKinsey had previously detailed conflicts with his in-laws in court filings, including accusations of anti-LGBTQ slurs from his mother-in-law and a physical assault from his father-in-law.
