What began as a 911 call from Nicholas Ayres reporting his girlfriend, Destiny Dunn, unresponsive in a motel room quickly escalated into a homicide investigation, with police allegedly uncovering a series of disturbing videos on Ayres’ phone that chronicle the hours leading up to Dunn’s death. Ayres initially told dispatchers Dunn fell after an altercation in the shower, but later admitted to a fight and bruising. Responding officers found Dunn with severe bruising, particularly to her neck and face. Neighbors reported hearing a physical altercation earlier that morning. During a post-Miranda interview, Ayres admitted to physical altercations on previous days but claimed they were accidental. However, investigators reviewing videos from Ayres’ phone reportedly found footage from August 10 showing Dunn without bruises, followed by another recording allegedly capturing Ayres repeatedly assaulting her, with sounds of slapping and punching, and Ayres telling her to ‘clean up her mess.’ Further recordings from the afternoon of Dunn’s death allegedly show her in a bathtub, barely moving, and later, Ayres pacing while a woman groans. In one video, Ayres is heard saying he has to call 911 because he’s ‘not going down for manslaughter.’ A brief, seemingly accidental 911 call was made shortly before Ayres’ final 911 call, which led to officers discovering Dunn deceased. Police noted defensive wounds on Ayres and ultimately ruled Dunn’s death a homicide, alleging Ayres assaulted her to the point of death. Ayres faces charges including second-degree felony murder and first-degree domestic assault and is being held without bond.
