House Intelligence Committee member Josh Gottheimer, a prominent moderate Democrat, launched a blistering attack on the rising socialist wing within his party, unequivocally stating they are “anti-American” and attempting to “hijack” the Democratic Party with a communist, open-border agenda. Gottheimer asserted on “The Big Weekend Show” that members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are “not Democrats” and their platform is fundamentally incompatible with the party’s core values. He decried their alleged support for figures like Leon Trotsky and the Communist Manifesto, labeling their ideology as “anti-American,” “anti-cop,” and dismissive of national borders. Referencing clips from a DSA convention where members advocated for removing ICE from campuses and expressed views that socialism is akin to Christian teachings, Gottheimer emphasized the vast numerical difference between registered Democrats and official DSA members, declaring, “They’re not welcome in the Democratic Party.” He pushed back against fellow Democrats who have shown openness to DSA-aligned candidates, reiterating that while fringe coalitions attempt to infiltrate both parties, the DSA’s agenda is a non-starter. Gottheimer specifically called out left-wing streamer Hasan Piker as an “ultimate grifter” and not a Democrat, stating that such figures are not welcome and that the party must make it clear who they are, contrasting this with the 45 million registered Democrats versus the 150,000 DSA members.
