Dr. Park Dietz, a forensic psychiatrist, noted that when presented with anonymous information about Betkouski, a consensus emerged among profiling experts that he was a viable suspect. Betkouski vanished from his New Mexico home in October 1982, just weeks before the Tylenol poisonings, and reappeared dead in Boise seven weeks later, having apparently altered his appearance. His belongings, discovered by authorities, included a map of Chicago and a bottle of sodium cyanide, though investigators clarified it was not the potassium cyanide used in the Tylenol murders.
