Ex-Cop Fled Fatal GWB Shooting in Hedge Fund SUV: Report

A retired NYPD detective accused of fatally shooting a Con Edison worker in a road rage incident on the George Washington Bridge fled the scene in a Range Rover owned by his hedge fund employer, according to a new report. Victor Romero, 62, allegedly fired a single shot from his driver’s seat into the car of Koran Irvine, 46, after a near-collision and aggressive tailgating, striking Irvine and causing his death. Prosecutors state surveillance video confirms Romero’s employer-issued SUV was the only vehicle in a position to fire the fatal shot. After the shooting, Romero reportedly sped away, crossing the bridge and heading north on the Palisades Interstate Parkway towards his home, without calling 911 or stopping. Authorities located Romero and the company vehicle the following day at his Manhattan workplace. Romero, who worked as a driver and private security guard for QVT Financial, admitted to carrying a revolver daily, and two additional handguns were found at his residence. He is currently facing a first-degree manslaughter charge, with bail set at $1 million.
