Kansas Man Arrested for Alleged Threats to Shoot President Trump, Mapped Rooftops Near Speech Site

A Kansas man, identified as 24-year-old Jaden J. Read of Clearwater, has been taken into federal custody on charges of making threats against President Donald Trump, following an investigation sparked by online comments. Authorities became aware of Read’s alleged threats on October 15th after a Crime Stoppers tip flagged comments made on a KAKE News Facebook post about Trump’s upcoming visit to Wichita. Prosecutors claim Read posted, “Let’s shoot Trump honestly, where’s our shooter? I’m tired of living this money life,” and followed it with assertions of having ammunition and intent to kill the president. Investigators reportedly uncovered further threats on a separate Facebook article from KWCH 12 News, where Read allegedly wrote, “Can we shoot him in Kansas please I will myself.” Crucially, just a minute later, Read allegedly posted comments indicating he knew the speech location and had already mapped out nearby rooftops, stating, “IK where your speech will be. Already mapped out roofs around. Finna get kirked since yall couldn’t help him.” Read was arrested on Saturday, two days before the president’s scheduled visit, and is being held pending a detention hearing, with U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser emphasizing that “political violence and threats of political violence will not be tolerated” and cautioning individuals to remain within constitutionally protected speech boundaries.
