Despite a year already packed with acclaimed horror hits like Obsession, Backrooms, and Resident Evil, the cinematic event poised to redefine fear in 2026 isn’t a horror film at all. Brian Duffield’s highly anticipated Whalefall, an adaptation of Daniel Kraus’s gripping 2023 survival-thriller novel, is already generating immense buzz, with early reviews hailing it as one of the year’s absolute best. Kraus himself collaborated on the screenplay, ensuring the film captures the raw tension of the source material. Adding to the anticipation, the film boasts a star-studded cast featuring Austin Abrams, known for his role in Resident Evil, alongside veteran actors Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame), Elizabeth Shue (The Boys), and Emily Rudd (One Piece), promising a visceral and unforgettable cinematic experience that transcends genre boundaries.
