Two Philadelphia police officers sustained a combined total of 15 gunshot wounds in a brutal ambush attack early Saturday morning while responding to a report of a man with a gun. The officers, a 40-year-old father of two and a 33-year-old father of five, were shot multiple times, including one who was hit 12 times, after arriving at a West Philadelphia address and coming under heavy gunfire while on a porch. The suspect, who allegedly ran down an alley and fired at the officers, also shot at additional responding officers before being apprehended by a SWAT team after being discovered hiding in a tree. The gunman was found in possession of two handguns and a shotgun, with one of the firearms identified as belonging to one of the injured officers. Both officers were rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center for surgery, their conditions currently unknown as the department and community hold their breath and offer prayers for their recovery.
