After 17 years on the run, Tamaira Angell Smith, 52, has been apprehended and extradited to Georgia to face a felony murder charge in the 2009 death of Eyanna Moore, 29. Smith allegedly administered a fatal illegal silicone buttock injection to Moore in a hotel room, leading to Moore’s death the following day. Smith fled shortly after Gwinnett police issued an arrest warrant for practicing medicine without a license, which later escalated to the felony murder charge. Her 17-year evasion ended when she attempted to renew a driver’s license in South Carolina, which she had obtained using a stolen identity in 2018. A DMV alert triggered an investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), where facial recognition technology and further investigation by Special Agent Shawn Ludwig and Senior Special Agent Bridgette Lott identified Smith and uncovered the outstanding murder warrant. Authorities then tracked her to McKinney, Texas, where she was arrested. Moore’s family, who had researched providers before the procedure and later discovered Smith and her associate used fraudulent credentials, expressed shock at the seemingly simple error that led to Smith’s capture, emphasizing the tragic loss of Moore, a mother of four who had a full life ahead of her.
