Longtime television actor Ted Shackelford, best known for his iconic role as Gary Ewing on the hit primetime soap operas “Dallas” and its spin-off “Knots Landing,” was recently photographed in Los Angeles utilizing a walker during a rare public outing. The 80-year-old actor, who portrayed the often troubled black sheep of the Ewing family from 1979 to 1993, was dressed casually in a blue collared shirt, cardigan, black trousers, sunglasses, and sneakers. Shackelford, who previously starred on “Another World” and later had a significant role on “The Young and the Restless,” has largely maintained a private life since his extensive soap opera career. Despite his character’s complexities, Shackelford himself once admitted to not particularly liking Gary Ewing, describing him as “weak” and lacking courage. His co-star Donna Mills, who played Abby Cunningham on “Knots Landing,” reminisced about their “steamy” love scenes, praising Shackelford as a “sweetheart” and a “great body.” The actor also participated in a “Knots Landing” reunion in 2005 and reprised his role as Gary Ewing for the “Dallas” reboot in 2013, with his last known television appearance being a 2017 episode of “NCIS.”
