Disturbing body camera footage has emerged showing Washington state Democrat Krista Perez, a candidate vying for a state House seat in the 29th Legislative District, visibly distressed and praying in the back of a patrol car following her arrest for driving under the influence. Perez, who advanced to the general election after finishing first in the primary, was apprehended after her vehicle allegedly struck multiple parked cars on August 11th. The video captures Perez admitting to consuming wine, declining field sobriety tests, and repeatedly stating her confusion and desire to go home. When questioned by officers, she initially denied being involved in an accident before admitting to having ‘some wine’ earlier in the evening, rating her sobriety as a ‘four’ out of ten when pressed. Her refusal to take sobriety tests, coupled with a subsequent alleged failure to provide a usable breath sample at the police station, led to a DUI charge with a refusal enhancement. The footage from inside the patrol car shows Perez in tears, audibly praying for divine intervention, a stark contrast to her electoral ambitions and raising serious questions about her fitness for public office.
