Newly declassified federal documents, reviewed by former FBI Special Agent Jonathan Gilliam, reveal chilling ‘red flags’ and a disturbing mental state in Thomas Crooks, the individual who attempted to assassinate President Donald Trump. Gilliam stated that the documents show Crooks was “spiraling into an almost manic or delusional state,” exhibiting behavior such as talking to himself extensively, pacing, and experiencing seemingly endless energy, including staying up all night dancing. One individual close to Crooks noted that his ears would “flame red when he lied” and that he became increasingly agitated and started talking to himself more as he got older, even denying hearing voices when confronted. The documents also indicate Crooks’ interest in explosives, with an individual confronting him about a gallon jug of liquid used for his 3D printer, a claim Crooks’ reaction suggested was untruthful. Despite graduating with an associate degree and enrolling in mechanical engineering courses, Crooks also took firearm courses and purchased ammunition, reportedly seeking out online vendors willing to sell to him. While FBI Director Kash Patel testified there is no evidence of Crooks being connected to anyone else, the investigation did involve contact with at least one foreign government, the details of which remain undisclosed.
