A 60-year-old woman is hospitalized with severe injuries, including a broken rib, collapsed lung, traumatic brain injury, and a dislocated shoulder requiring surgery, after she was allegedly ejected from her seat on the Rocky Mountain Coaster at Copper Mountain Resort and dragged along the track for an estimated 20 to 30 seconds. According to her attorney, Nicki Parker of Texas remained strapped into her seatbelt as the coaster continued its descent, causing her to be pulled along the track while suspended 15 to 20 feet above the ground. Her husband, riding behind her, reportedly had to rescue her from her precarious position as no resort staff were immediately available. The incident has prompted an investigation by Colorado’s Division of Oil and Public Safety, leading to the closure of the Rocky Mountain Coaster and a similar ride at Purgatory Resort, with the manufacturer also instructed to issue a safety bulletin. The resort has stated its thoughts are with the injured guest and wishes for a speedy recovery, while the coaster, advertised as the second-longest alpine coaster in North America, remains closed pending the investigation’s outcome.
