Israel UN Envoy Calls NYC Mayor ‘Clown’ Over Netanyahu Arrest Demand

Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon fiercely labeled New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani a “clown” and dismissed his call for federal authorities to arrest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his upcoming UN General Assembly visit as a mere “stunt.” Mamdani had accused Netanyahu of being a “war criminal” and the “architect of a horrific genocide” against Palestinians, demanding the federal government enforce an International Criminal Court arrest warrant. Danon retorted that such accusations are baseless “blood libels” and that a mayor should focus on local issues like homelessness and garbage, not foreign affairs or international legal matters, especially given the rise of antisemitism. He emphasized that the US is not part of the ICC, rendering any such warrant ineffective in the US and calling Mamdani’s actions a “political stunt” designed to spread lies. Danon asserted that humanitarian aid is entering Gaza and that Netanyahu will proceed with his UN address, suggesting Mamdani should attend and learn rather than engage in publicity stunts, highlighting that Netanyahu’s office has already rejected the ICC’s jurisdiction as a “kangaroo court.”
