A convicted killer on the run from a Tennessee prison was apprehended after authorities tracked him to an Illinois shed where he had been living, reportedly consuming beer and preparing garlic bread. Jacob Allen Morley, who escaped the Northwest Correctional Complex on October 25, was captured on Tuesday in Missouri, aided by FLOCK camera technology that helped locate his vehicle. Investigators believe Morley spent time sheltering in a hunter’s shed near Marion, Illinois, approximately 127 miles from his escape point. Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Diederich stated that evidence suggested Morley had access to beer and made garlic bread during his time in the shed, even leaving a handwritten apology after taking a truck, clothes, and three firearms from a nearby farm. The sheriff indicated Morley likely walked about three miles after abandoning another truck he had used post-escape, with his journey to Marion remaining somewhat of a mystery. Morley, serving a life sentence for the 2022 murder of Cody Birchfield, had previously been arrested for the crime after a police chase, with Birchfield’s body later discovered under Morley’s home. The capture in Illinois, following a prison break and a period of apparent domesticity in a makeshift hideout, adds a peculiar chapter to the story of a man convicted of first-degree murder, burglary, vandalism, tampering with evidence, and evading arrest.
